This friendly 2-day workshop teaches the basics of machine sewing through an exciting makeup bag or washbag project — absolutely no boring aprons. Expect fun fabrics, good vibes, and proud smiles at the end.

How to use a sewing machine safely
Straight lines, corners, curves, and seams
Measuring, cutting & turning
Simple finishing techniques
What They’ll Make
Zipped and lined makeup bag or wash bag (they’ll learn to sew their first zip!)
All materials are included — choose from our curated fabric selection.
Course Details
Duration: 2 days (Saturday + Sunday) Time: 10am–4pm (with lunch break) Skill Level: Total beginners welcome Group Size: 6 max Location: Studio Stitch Up, Chesham old town
Materials + machine use included - plus squash and unlimited biscuits!
Students will be using irons, sewing machines, and sharp scissors - so before enrolling please ensure they are able to follow instructions safely.
PLEASE NOTE: We’re afraid you won’t be able to use your own machine in this class, as everyone will be learning to thread the studio machines together. However, you can add on a 30min session after the day one class if you would like to be shown how to thread and operate your own machine - just add this below and bring your machine with you. You will then be able to use your own machine for day two.
After this course, they will be equipped to join our standalone dressmaking classes as they’ll have mastered the machine skills necessary - coming soon!
